Description: This session is designed to extend information and knowledge regarding the Certificate Holder in Tinnitus Management (CH-TM) through the American Board of Audiology. This session is designed around feedback from those that have participated in the CH-TM program but is open to every attendee interested in tinnitus. A very brief overview of the program will be offered and information will be available regarding the program. Several current certificate holders will lead/present cases that expand knowledge and skills in tinnitus management. Cases will provide opportunity for discussion and input.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Describe current issues in tinnitus assessment and management.
  2. Identify issues important to the patient in clinical care of tinnitus.
  3. Direct discussion and recommendations for patients with tinnitus.

Gail M. Whitelaw, Ph.D. Director of Clinical Instruction and Research and Audiologist, Department of Speech and Hearing Science, The Ohio State University. She directs the Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic at Ohio State, is a clinical preceptor for AuD students, and teaches a number of courses in the AuD curriculum, including coursework on auditory processing disorders. She is also the audiology faculty member on the Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Other Disorders (LEND) grant at the Nisonger Center at Ohio State. One of her most significant clinical interests is in the assessment and management of both children and adults with auditory processing disorders. She is Board Certified with a Specialty Certification in Pediatric Audiology.


Emily Nairn, AuD is a clinical audiologist in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, Division of Audiology at the University of Michigan. She began her career there in 2012 after being awarded her doctoral degree in audiology from A.T. Still University. Her clinical work at U of M includes adult diagnostics, amplification management for hearing loss, aural rehabilitation, management of implantable bone-conduction devices and therapy for Meniere's disease. She also has a keen interest in the area of tinnitus management, and has had an active role in the development and administration of a tinnitus management program at the university. A Fellow of the American Academy of Audiology since 2013, Dr. Nairn has served as Chair of the AAA political action committee since 2015. She resides with her daughter in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
