Description: This presentation by members of the Academy’s Ethical Practices Committee (EPC) will review current activities of the EPC and resource guidelines. Also included will be discussions of ethical situations and application of the Academy’s Code of Ethics in case studies of challenging legal and ethical situations. 

Learning Objectives:

  1. Describe and utilize website resources of the Academy Ethical Practice Committee.
  2. Describe ethical dilemmas and how they fit into the Academy’s Code of Ethics.
  3. Describe aspects of Critical Thinking and how they apply to ethical practices for audiologists.

Alison M. Grimes, AuD

Alison M. Grimes, AuD, is Director of Audiology at UCLA Health, Director of the UCLA Newborn Hearing Screening Program, and an Assistant Clinical Professor in Head and Neck Surgery at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. She is also a Past-President of the American Academy of Audiology.

Christine Lomey Ulinski, AuD

Christine Lomey Ulinski, AuD, is Supervisory Audiologist at Edward Hines VA Hospital practicing there for the last 16 years. Dr. Ulinski received her Master's Degree from Purdue University in 1996, Doctor of Audiology Degree (Au.D.) from Ball State University in 1998 and Advanced Studies in Cochlear Implants Certificate from Salus University in 2012. 

Professionally, Christine is currently President of the Association of VA Audiologists having previously served as AVAA Treasurer and Member-at-Large. She is AVAA’s representative for the Audiology Quality Consortium and also is the Joint Defense Veterans Audiology Association Treasurer. Currently, she is a member of AAA’s Ethical Practices Committee. Honors have included being nominated for Outstanding Team, Federal Employee of the Year, in 2004 and 2012, receiving the David P. Goldstein, Ph.D. Outstanding Audiologist Award from the Audiology Foundation of America in 2010 , and the President’s Award from the Illinois Academy of Audiology in 2009.

Alecia Soyk-Manning, AuD

Alecia Soyk-Manning is a Board Certified Audiologist practicing in central Kentucky with over 20 years experience. She earned a Bachelor of Health Science degree in Communication Disorders from the University of Kentucky in 1996, a Master of Science in Audiology from the University of Washington in 1998, and a Doctor of Audiology degree from Salus University in 2010. Her current focuses are adult diagnostics and amplification. She has previously served as a board member for the Kentucky Academy of Audiology and is a current member of the Ethical Practices Committee.
