Description: Recently much has been written about disruptive technology, such as over-the-counter hearing aids and telecare. The objective of this course is to provide a implementable clinical strategy involving the use of these disruptive technologies to expand the market for audiology services. After outlining the emerging pathways to hearing care and how they fit into the traditional pathways, the course examines underserved populations and how they can be better served through new pathways with an emphasis on unbundled service provisions.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Classify the needs of persons with hearing loss, including their prevalence, demographic characteristics and typical behaviors.
  2. Identify and analyze the emerging pathways to patient care and how they differ from the existing traditional pathways to care.
  3. Implement clinical strategies that include new counseling provisions, OTC device and unbundled pricing of service packages to broaden consumer demand and improve patient outcomes.

Brian Taylor, AuD is the director of clinical audiology for Fuel Medical. He also serves as editor-in-chief for Hearing Health and Technology Matters, a leading independent industry blog, and editor for Audiology Practice, the quarterly journal of the ADA. Dr. Taylor has more than 25 years of clinical, business and teaching experience. He received is AuD from Central Michigan University, His most recent book ,Audiology Practice Management from Thieme Press is available in 2019.
