Description: The body of research based literature on growth mindset is important to consider in clinical education. A growth mindset culture allows clinical educators to support student’s progress while encouraging resilience and innovation. In the session, growth mindset will be explored in a way that is pertinent to our fields.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Explain the differences between growth mindset and fixed mindset.
  2. Describe how growth mindset concepts enhance the clinical education of graduate clinicians.
  3. Discuss and implement growth mindset strategies into their daily precepting.

Jennifer Phelan is a lecturer and clinical preceptor at Northwestern University. Her clinical focus is pediatric audiology. Previous experience as a classroom educator is what brought Jennifer from the hospital back into an educational setting. In her current role, Jennifer is able to combine her clinical skills with educating future colleagues.
