Description:
The focus of this session is on patients who have “normal” audiograms yet present with deficits in their functional communication abilities. It Is designed to be a primer for audiologists having interest in learning to assess this population and in turn, provide remediation services to patients with what are described as suprathreshold auditory deficits. Fundamental information regarding selecting assessment materials, criteria for tests, and practical considerations in evaluation will be discussed. Using test battery criteria for development treatment/management recommendations and accommodations will be highlighted. Case examples will be provided.
Learning Outcomes:
1. List tools for evaluating functional hearing deficits in adults and how to obtain these tools.
2. Compare and contrast diagnostic tests and criterion for tests that lead to identifying functional hearing deficits in adults.
3. Describe test results that create a foundation for management/treatment of functional hearing deficits.
