Instructional Level: Intermediate
Description: When evaluating the young pediatric patient, objective testing using auditory evoked potentials is essential. Preferred practice is to not sedate children younger than 3 months, with most clinics using 6 months as the cutoff for use of sedation/anesthesia. Due to challenges of testing babies during natural sleep, speed, efficiency and decision making are critical. In addition, utilizing technology to its fullest helps to improve test completion. This presentation will discuss efficiency and newer technologies for testing the young pediatric patient.
1. Describe ways to improve efficiency during testing of infants and young children.
2. Apply tips for improving efficiency during ABR assessment.
3. Evaluate their need for technology innovations.
