Description: The Department of Defense employs uniformed audiologists in all respective services the US Army, Navy, and Air Force. These uniformed audiologists perform traditional audiological services such as evaluations and treatment, but also perform an abundance of services related to hearing loss prevention and ensuring hearing readiness. This talk includes audiologists from all services overviewing their jobs and roles as the hearing health care provider for our Service Members.
MAJ Jennifer Noetzel, AuD, US Army, MAA President
MAJ Jennifer Noetzel received her Clinical Doctorate in Audiology from the University of Cincinnati in 2011. She immediately entered military service and has served for the last 10 years as an Army audiologist. She has had positions at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Washington, D.C., Ft. Drum, NY, Ft. Hood, TX and Ft. Stewart, GA. Her positions have ranged from extern to Chief of the installation Audiology Clinic. She was recently selected by the Army to pursue a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Communication Sciences and Disorders with an area of focus in bioacoustics and animal audiology at the University of Cincinnati. She is currently a PhD student working in FETCH Lab (Facility for Education and Training of Canine Hearing) which has a partnership with the Department of Defense and Special Forces military working dogs. She is currently the Military Audiology Association President
LCDR Seth Garcia, AuD, PhD, US Navy, MAA Secretary
LCDR Seth Garcia is a native of San Diego, California. He is the department head of Occupational Audiology at Naval Hospital Okinawa, where he has been assigned since 2019. He received his audiology training at the University of Washington, Seattle (Au.D., 2008) and the University of Pittsburgh (Ph.D., 2019). Dr. Garcia serves as the Navy research liaison to the Defense Health Agency, Hearing Center of Excellence, and serves on the executive board of directors for the Military Audiology Association tri-service organization.
LtCol John Foster, US Air Force
Lieutenant Colonel John M. Foster is currently the Educational and Developmental Intervention Services Flight Commander assigned to the 52d Medical Operations Squadron, 52d Medical Group, Spangdahlem Air Base, Germany. He serves as the multi-disciplinary team lead and sole audiologist, supporting three Department of Defense schools, and a 6.5K active duty population across five countries. He also serves as the Deputy Squadron Commander for the 52d Health Care Operations Squadron.
Lt Col Foster attended Utah State University, where he received his commission in 2008 by Direct Appointment, and graduated with his Doctorate of Audiology degree in 2009. He is a graduate of Squadron Officer School and Air Command and Staff College. His deployed humanitarian mission experience includes acting as lead Audiologist on medial readiness missions to the Dominican Republic, Guyana, and Panama. Prior to his current position, he was the Director of Operations, 348th Recruiting Squadron, Clearfield, Utah.
