- Identify tools and resources available for communicating with other providers.
October is National Audiology Awareness Month! This webinar will help you in outreach efforts to other health care providers in your community – this month and throughout the year. Practical tips and strategies will guide you through the process of educating other professionals about hearing loss, dizziness and tinnitus, and describing the services audiology can provide to assist those patients thereby expanding your referral network. As well, a PR professional will offer innovative solutions for maximizing the benefits of social media and the Internet for promoting hearing health, audiology, and your practice.
Ursula M. Findlen, PhD
Ursula M. Findlen, PhD, is the Research Director in the Division of Clinical Therapies- Audiology Department at Nationwide Children’s Hospital and an Assistant Professor-Clinical at The Ohio State University College of Medicine, Department of Otolaryngology- Head and Neck Surgery. She earned her Master’s and PhD degrees in Speech and Hearing Science from The Ohio State University. She worked clinically at several hospitals in the Boston area and coordinated the Hearing Implant Program at UMass Memorial Medical Center prior to returning to Ohio in 2016. Dr. Findlen currently engages in clinical practice and research endeavors related to all areas of pediatric (re)habilitative audiology. She has a particular interest in infant diagnostics and outcomes of children with cochlear implants. Dr. Findlan is chair of the AAA Health Care Relations Committee.
Joshua Huppert, AuD
Dr. Joshua Huppert is currently an Assistant Professor of Otolaryngology and Pediatric Audiologist at University of Miami Ear Institute, where he is a member of the Pediatric Balance Team. Dr. Huppert's specific vestibular interests include central vestibular mechanisms mediating aspects of vestibular cognition (e.g., spatial awareness, navigation, and memory), central compensation following vestibular insult, and isolated otolith dysfunction. Other audiologic passions beyond vestibular include electrophysiology and evaluation of special and/or medically-involved populations. Dr. Huppert currently serves as the Chair-Elect for the Public Outreach Counsel. When not doing audiology, Dr. Huppert enjoys running/exercising, exploring eclectic dining experiences, being outdoors, and spending quality time with close friends.
Vicki Bendure, APR
As President of Bendure Communications, Vicki has been working in public relations for more than 20 years. During that time, she has established media contacts throughout the Washington, D.C. metropolitan region as well as nationally and internationally. Recent experience in event strategic communications, media relations and promotions include the Los Angeles Marathon, launch and oversight of the Washington, D.C. Marathon, launch of the Washington Mystics Foundation’s anti-obesity program and overseeing media coverage on a Washington Mystics Foundation/Youth Aids Forum with Ashley Judd and Lyfe Jennings. Promotion of additional sports related events and organizations include promotion of the CSC Invitational (bike race), the Washington International Horse Show, Upperville Horse Show, Musket Ridge Golf Club, and the Virginia and International Gold Cup races. Work with not-for-profits includes coordinating, scheduling and holding news conferences around the world with Microsoft on behalf of the International Center for Missing & Exploited Children, overseeing the “green” carpet and all pre- and on-site press coverage for Jane Goodall’s annual gala. Working with Joe Gibbs and his Youth for Tomorrow Charities, Vicki worked to secure national sports press (Sports Illustrated, FOX Sports, etc.), as well as general coverage (“Today”, “Good Morning America”, “CBS Early Show”, USA Today, etc.). Additional work for a wide array of non-profits includes overseeing day-to-day media coverage with regional, national and international story placements. On behalf of sports clients, BCI has secured millions of dollars’ worth of trade advertising along with reduced rates and has produced powerful media stats and reports which have been effective in closing national and local sponsorships.
