Description: The American Academy of Audiology Scope of Practice states that Audiologists are qualified to evaluate, diagnose, develop management strategies, and provide treatment and rehabilitation for patients with tinnitus. Tinnitus evaluation, treatment, and research are continually evolving both inside and outside of audiology. This presentation will provide a review of the tinnitus literature published in 2019 with a focus on both clinical and research implications. Attendees will be able to use this information in their clinical settings.

Learning Objectives:

• Describe basic epidemiological information related to tinnitus.
• Impart advancements in tinnitus evaluation and management to their patients and colleagues.
• Identify trends in current tinnitus research.

David P. Jedlicka, AuD

Dr. David Jedlicka is a staff audiologist at the Pittsburgh VA Healthcare System. He is also a clinical lab instructor at the University of Pittsburgh teaching 1st year Au.D. students. in addition to this work, Dr. Jedlicka is a clinical supervisor for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th year Au.D. students. Dr. Jedlicka has also been involved in numerous VA research projects and currently splits time in clinical and research related roles at the VA.

Lori Zitelli, AuD

Audiologist
UPMC

Lori Zitelli joined UPMC as an audiologist in 2012 and became senior audiologist in 2018. She received her clinical doctorate in Audiology from the University of Pittsburgh. She is a part-time lab instructor at the University of Pittsburgh and teaches a Clinical Procedures Lab for first year AuD students. Her special interests include amplification, tinnitus/decreased sound tolerance evaluation and treatment, clinical education, clinical research, and interventional audiology. She is an active fellow and volunteer of the American Academy of Audiology.

Tricia L. Scaglione, AuD

Assistant Professor

Tricia Scaglione, AuD, F-AAA, CCC-A is the Director of the Tinnitus & Sound Sensitivities Clinic and Associate Director of Clinical Education in Audiology for the University of Miami Department of Otolaryngology. Dr. Scaglione is an Assistant Professor practicing as a clinic audiologist. Dr. Scaglione has provided clinical education to students at the University of Miami for the past 10 years in the areas of tinnitus and sound sensitivities, auditory and vestibular diagnostics, hearing aids, and AEPs.She is Board Certified in Audiology (ABAC) and served as an invited subject matter expert (SME) for the development of the ABA's Certificate Holder in Audiology Precepting (CH-AP) program. She currently serves as a Board member for the Tinnitus Practitioners Association (TPA), is involved in numerous committees for the Aademy, and is serving on the American Tinnitus Association's (ATA) Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC). Dr. Scaglione is an invited speaker for state, national, and international meetings.
