Upon completion, each participant in the eAudiology Web seminar will be able to:
- Describe how professional ethics apply to precepting.
- Explain the extern selection process.
- Describe the important components of an Affiliation Agreement and student contract.
- Describe the building blocks for a healthy professional relationship and how to maintain professional boundaries with students.
- Define appropriate duties and assignments for students and preceptors.
- Describe the relationship between student and preceptor as it relates to billing and coding.
- Describe the ethical use of social and electronic media.
- Describe constructive strategies for handling difficult conversations
- Identify the parties and processes that should be involved to terminate a preceptor/student relationship or dissolve an affiliation agreement.
- Identify applicable laws that mandate confidentiality.
- Explain the legal and ethical consequences of noncompliance.
Description: Module 4 is one of four training modules on the pathway to earn the nationally recognized Certificate Holder–Audiology Preceptor (CH-AP) designation. All training modules provide ideas, tools and resources to effectively manage students in clinical placements, and validate the current state of an audiologist's skills, tasks and abilities as a preceptor through online assessments. The CH-AP program introduces a new level of consistency in the quality and constructiveness of clinical experiences.
