Description:
The purpose of this grand rounds is to present a series of cases to illustrate various approaches to the evaluation and management of tinnitus and sound sensitivity.
Christopher Spankovich, AuD, PhD, MPH
Associate Professor, University of Mississippi Medical Center
Christopher Spankovich is an Associate Professor and Vice Chair of Research for the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. Dr. Spankovich is a clinician-scientist with a translational research program focused on prevention of acquired forms of hearing loss, tinnitus, and sound sensitivity His research has been funded by industry, federal, and professional bodies. He has published over 70 articles and book chapters (44 in peer-reviewed journals) and has given over 60 national and international presentations. Dr. Spankovich continues to practice clinically with special interest in tinnitus, sound sensitivity, ototoxicity, hearing conservation, and advanced diagnostics. He holds Adjunct faculty status with Salus University, Nova Southeastern University, and Towson University and serves as an Associate Editor for the International Journal of Audiology. He also provides consultant services for medico-legal cases.

Danesh, Ph.D., CCC-A, FAAA, is currently a Professor at the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, and also has a Secondary appointment as Professor of College of Medicine, Florida Atlantic University (FAU), Boca Raton, Florida, where he teaches courses in neuroanatomy and neurophysiology of auditory and vestibular systems, audiology, genetics of communicative disorders, and aural rehabilitation. Dr. Danesh obtained his B.Sc. in audiology from Iran University of Medical Sciences, Tehran, Iran, his M.S. in audiology from Idaho State University, Pocatello, Idaho, and his Ph.D. in audiology, with an emphasis on auditory electrophysiology, from the University of Memphis, Memphis, Tennessee. Dr. Danesh is an American Board of Audiology board certified practicing audiologist. His current clinical work concentrates on patients with tinnitus, vertigo and sound sensitivity (e.g., hyperacusis and misophonia).

Clinical Psychologist & Tinnitus Specialist, MindfulTinnitusRelief.com
Dr. Gans is a clinical psychologist specializing in the psychological impact of deafness and hearing on well-being. In her private practice in San Francisco, CA, Dr. Gans treats clients with tinnitus, hyperacusis, misophonia, and other hearing-related difficulties. She completed research at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) in the Department of Otolaryngology’s Audiology Clinic on Mindfulness-Based Tinnitus Stress Reduction (MBTSR), with promising results. She is the CEO/Founder of MindfulTinnitusRelief.com, the first-ever self-administered 8-week online skill-building course of its kind for learning how to shift tinnitus from 'bothersome' to 'non-bothersome'. Senior Audiologist / Lab Instructor, UPMC / University of Pittsburgh
Lori Zitelli is a Senior Audiologist at UPMC. She received her clinical doctorate in Audiology from the University of Pittsburgh. She is a part-time lab instructor at the University of Pittsburgh and teaches a Clinical Procedures Lab for first year AuD students. Her special interests include clinical education, tinnitus/decreased sound tolerance evaluation and treatment, clinical research, and interventional audiology. She is an active fellow and volunteer of the American Academy of Audiology and a Trustee of the American Academy of Audiology Foundation.
